Discovery is the finding of new islands. Settling new islands for new resources is a major part of Anno Online.
The type of resources and fertilities on the islands your discovery ship can find is dependent on the sailor used, NOT the size of the ship. The size of a discovery ship only affects the number of item slots the ship has, which allows you to equip more sails so that the ship requires less time to do its discovery.
